ABOUT

Sighthound is a branding practice specializing in place. Whether branding a hotel, a community, a commercial property, or a development that combines them, our job is the same: lead people to a place they'll love.

By giving each place an identity, a voice, and a clarity of purpose that attracts their audience, we bring that place to life and create long-term value for its community and owners.

PRINCIPAL

MELINDA WELCH

I've spent twenty years in design & brand strategy, with the last decade focused on hospitality & real estate.

Before Sighthound, I led branding divisions within two hospitality-focused creative agencies. My clients include Marriott, Bozzuto, Hyatt, Tishman Speyer, & other leading operators, developers, management companies, & founders.

Alongside my practice, I teach strategy in the Masters in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts in New York, & co-host the BrandBox podcast, where SVA faculty unpack brand phenomena & the cultural shifts which shape them.

A NOTE ON THE NAME

A sighthound is a category of dog bred to hunt by sight rather than scent. Greyhounds, whippets, and salukis are among them. One of the oldest dog classes in human history, they possess an uncommon combination of qualities: visual acuity at great distance, remarkable speed, and elegance in motion.

Great brands have a similar combination: clarity of vision to see where the market is going, the speed to adapt as cultural and consumer dynamics shift, and the focus to know where to concentrate their efforts.

Beyond seeing parallels between brands and sighthounds, I've also come to love these incredible animals over thirty years of rescuing them. My family's adopted greyhounds have awed us with their speed and grace, made us laugh with their unexpected antics, and filled our hearts long after leaving us. SightHound is inspired by them.
