  • The brand needed to win Millennial reconsideration, but the outlets that reach this audience were unlikely to cover a standard redesign story.

  • A PR campaign anchored by a gallery event during Frieze art fair. Super 8 displayed kitschy artwork collected from its properties at a downtown NYC gallery, hosted by actor and celebrity crafter Amy Sedaris. Every piece was free for the taking. The event identity signaled a turning point for the brand, and the collateral placed Super 8 in the world of fine art (with a wink and a nod). Media covered the event in droves. It was such a success, the brand remixed the event for Art Basel in Miami later that year.

BACKGROUND

Budget motel brand Super 8 had recently completed a chain-wide interiors redesign aimed at Millennial road-trippers.

CONTEXT

The brand needed to win Millennial reconsideration, but the outlets that reach this audience were unlikely to cover a standard redesign story.

DEVELOPED WHILE SERVING AS CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF THE DOOR

SOLUTION

A PR campaign anchored by a gallery event during Frieze art fair.
